Book Blogger Hop

Follow my Book Blog Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View.

Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

A. I love the Bitter Frost series by Kailin Gow.  Each time I read one of the books I get excited, I love being in their world.  I like the Winter Court more than the Summer Court though.  If you have read these you will know what I'm talking about.

Q.  “When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?”

A.  I have been reading ever since I can remember.  It has always been an important part of my life.  I have recently realized or acknowledged that it is my passion in life.

Journey into the Realm: The Elf Girl Review

Book:  Journey into the Realm: The Elf Girl
Author:  Markelle Grabo
Publisher:, Incorporated
Rating: 4 Stars
Level: Young Adult
Source: Review copy (print paperback) from author

Summary from Goodreads:
With her pale skin, emerald eyes, and pointy ears, Ramsey's life has never been normal. When she learns that she is an elf, things take a turn for the strange and perilous. Ramsey must rescue the sister she never knew in order to unlock the secrets of her past, secrets that could determine the outcome of a dangerous war between fairies and elves. And in order to discover herself, Ramsey must accept her magical destiny.

My Review:
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this. I had never read about elves before and this was written by a teenager. Let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it! I felt like I was reading a book by an author that had written many great books already.

The story starts out with Ramsey living in the Human Realm and wondering why she has pointy ears and is different than the rest of her family. She finds out when Addison and her brother Stellan tell her and take her back home to the Elf Realm. This is where the story really takes off from I thought. Ramsey gets settled and then starts to figure out how she can rescue her kidnapped sister Zora. What an incredible story this was. It was fantasy but I felt like I was in a small town walking around to the different shops and meeting people.

I loved the main characters as well as most of the others that Ramsey meets along the way. I thought the Queen was a wonderful down to earth person and I liked how she knows things. My other favorite was Mac, he is so cute and funny. I don't like Finn and I'm sure no one does. I don't want to give away an spoilers so I'm just going to say that I loved it. While some questions were answered by the end there are still many unanswered questions left. I'm guessing and hoping that there is a sequel to come soon. I have to know what happens next.

While this was my first book to read about Elves it won't be my last. This is the author's debut book and I am going to keep her on my list of favorite authors. I hope she continues to write, I can't wait to see what she has in store for the future.

This book was given to me by the author for review. This did not in any way affect my review.

Book Blogger Hop

Follow my Book Blog Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee's View.

This week's question:

The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "you and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?

My answer:

I would have to say Rose from Vampire Academy.  I love this series and Rose is just an awesome character.  She has the hottest guys and great friends.  She gets to have fun and kick butt at the same time!

Anathema (Cloud Prophet #1) by Megg Jensen Review

Book:  Anathema (Cloud Prophet #1)
Author:  Megg Jensen
Publisher:  DarkSide Publishing
Rating:  5 Stars
Level:  Young Adult
Source:  Review copy from Author (e-book)

Summary from Goodreads:
Magic. Lies. Manipulation

Reychel is a slave girl sheltered from the outside world with no hope for escape. The night before her dreaded fifteenth birthday, her best friend disappears, leaving her to face her branding ceremony - when her master’s sigil is burned on the back of her bald scalp – alone. She soon discovers nothing is as it seems when people desperate for freedom beg for her help.

Can Reychel learn to believe in herself in time?

My Review:
What a debut! This book had me from the first page and I couldn't put it down. It's about this girl Reychel who is a slave and lives with lots of other slaves under their masters control. They all have to keep their heads shaved and get their master's mark branded onto the back of their neck when they turn fifthteen. One morning Reychel wakes to find her best friend gone and a token left in her bed. I found myself gripping my kindle at times, I felt like I was right there the whole time. I don't want to say any more and give away any spoilers. The story is fast paced with lots of action and suspense. This story has such an amazing well thought out plot. I have never read anything like this, it's such a unique fantasy. When certain people were revealed I was quite shocked to learn who they really were. At times I wasn't sure who was on Reychel's side and who was pretending to be her friend. I was surprised at the ending, I was like what how could that person do that?! I am so excited that I don't have long to wait to read the sequel Oubliette. This is a must read for anyone who has not read it yet!
