The Association 1: President Park Incidents

Book:  The Association 1:  President Park Incidents
Author:  E.P. Shirleyjack
Publisher:  E.P. Shirleyjack
Rating:  3.5 Stars
Summary From Goodreads:

In retrospect, I should have called the police after the Second President Park Incident. The police or the Magic Council. But it all started so innocuously, behind the dumpster at Jiggle Jon's Cold Beer, Lotto and Groceries, in the bluish light of the corner street lamp. It started with a frog and a question. And here we are, three friends chasing answers through trash strewn gullies and hostile back country highways, all because of that frog...and The Association.

A novelette. First tale of The Association.

My Review:
This is a magical, fun, light read that the author gave me free. I would give it a 3.5 star rating. It starts off with these three girls, Tay, Togo and Sarah just hanging out, trying to keep out of trouble. They are collecting water samples and looking for mutant six legged frogs. It tells the story of how the three girls became friends and growing up. They come across another part of town where they get caught up in a magical showdown between two mages. Tay the more narrator of the story tries to help out the young guy Barth who is put under a spell. He teaches her how to perform the spell that will remove the spell that was put on him. I was laughing while I was reading how Barth was telling Tay to twist and turn her body different ways to learn how to perform the magical spell. Then when she had to learn to sing the words to the chant, that had me laughing even more. While Tay thinks Barth looks like a nerd I think they would make a cute couple. She finally gets him freed in the end and he suggests she comes to his school and take magic classes. I'm wondering if there will be a sequel to this novella. There was a mention of a first magical incident that happened but it never really said what it was and how Togo saved Sarah and Tay. I would like to read it if there is, I would like to learn more about each character and see if Tay and Barth start a relationship. Overall I enjoyed reading this novella and would like to read more from this author.
