Summary from Goodreads:
Ima is just a teenage girl trying to make it in The Dome, an encapsulated, 5-mile radius of downtown Chicago that remains after natural disaster has overtaken most of the earth. When she meets a hooded figure named Vaughn at a party, he takes her on a whirlwind escape that jolts her from her current reality into Silicon City, where humans are upgraded, currency is clout, and bionic eyes are the only way to get information among the glass and metal spiraling buildings that dot the skyline. Oh, and the year is 2198, not 2052 like she thought it was.

But this new city comes with dangers of its own, from degenerates to replications, from hostile hashes to a dictator who seems determined to control the population. To top it all off, Ima has to find some way to get back to The Dome to save her best friend Dash before the powers of Silicon City find a way to destroy it.

Something sinister is brewing in Silicon City, and Ima is determined to figure out how to stop it. Along the way, she will have to give up parts of herself to save the ones she loves. Can she survive the future long enough to fix the past?

Socialpunk is a 62,000-word young adult novel, slated as the first volume of the Socialpunk Trilogy.

My Review:

Socialpunk is a mix of futuristic, dystopian and sci-fi. It is a fast paced interesting story with likeable characters.

Ima who is known by her friends as E lives in the Dome in Chicago. It is a place where people don't remember their pasts and don't venture beyond the Dome.

One night Ima and her best friend Dash go to a concert where everyone is going to be. It is quite an adventure for Ima to even get to the concert with her abusive father on the hunt for her. Once there she meets two guys and then there is an explosion. Ima makes a split second decision to leave Dash behind and follow these two guys that she just met and head off to the unknown. They end up where Vaughn is from in Silicon City. People here are upgraded and everything is very high tech. Will Ima decide to stay or try to find her way back to the Dome?

I liked that the story was fast paced and it was a quick read. There is lots of adventure and suspense with some romance. We are given just a bit of background information on the characters and really the background of the world itself. I am hoping to find out more in the next book though. I was a bit confused with everything that was going on. The author does a good job of making the scenes come alive. I felt like I was right there running along side of Ima. There is quite a cliffhanger at the end too.

Overall a good book that will be interesting to see where it goes from here. This e-book was provided to me by the author for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
